Causes & Treatments of Neck and Shoulder Pain

Cervical Misalignments

What is it and how do we treat it?

Lower cervical misalignments involve the vertebrae in your neck being out of their natural alignment, which can cause nerve irritation and muscle strain.

We address these misalignments with targeted, precise chiropractic adjustments that aim to correct the root cause. Our treatment approach also includes stabilizing exercises and postural correction to restore comfort and enhance mobility.

Text Neck (Loss of Curvature)

What is it and how do we treat it?

The loss of the natural curve in your neck, often resulting from prolonged forward head posture or "text neck," places strain on the cervical spine. This condition is prevalent among individuals who spend significant time on computers or children frequently engaged with screens.

To address this, we focus on restoring the natural curve of your neck to reduce pain and improve posture. Our comprehensive treatment includes precise chiropractic adjustments, stabilizing exercises, postural correction, and ergonomic coaching, tailored to enhance comfort and support long-term spinal health.

Shoulder Joint Dysfunction

What is it and how do we treat it?

Shoulder joint dysfunction frequently accompanies neck pain due to the close relationship between these areas, often resulting from misalignments, muscle imbalances, or repetitive strain.

To effectively treat shoulder joint dysfunction, we adopt a holistic approach that targets the underlying spinal misalignments and structural imbalances. Our comprehensive treatment plan includes precise chiropractic adjustments, muscle strengthening and stabilization exercises, nerve function restoration, and postural correction to ensure a balanced recovery and lasting relief.

Neck Hump (Dowager’s Hump)

What is it and how do we treat it?

A neck hump, or Dowager’s Hump, develops at the base of the neck due to poor posture, spinal misalignments, or forward head tilt, often as a result of soft tissue swelling or fatty deposits that build up in response to chronic spinal stress.

To address this condition, our treatment aims to correct the underlying structural issues and improve your posture. Our approach includes precise chiropractic adjustments, posture strengthening correction exercises, and ergonomic coaching, all designed to reduce swelling and restore a natural, upright posture.

What Our Satisfied Patients Are Saying

Aimee

As a dental hygienist, I often experience neck, shoulder, wrist and hand pain. I would do stretches and self-adjustments for immediate relief, but I felt I wasn't getting any better overall. My mom was a patient in the past and recommended Intero as it was my first time ever getting chiropractic treatment. I see Dr. Megan who is fantastic, efficient, and caring. She addresses all concerns using a methodic technique to help me correct my "tech" neck and maintain the health of my joints. I started to see improvement after a few sessions with Dr. Megan where I didn't feel the need to make self-adjustments. I am more energized and notice my posture is improving allowing me to better care for my patients at work. Thank you Dr. Megan and team for helping me succeed in my career.

I recently switched to Intero Chiropractic after a few months of not seeing any real results at a different chiropractic office. From my first appointment, I knew this place was the real deal. They conducted a series of tests and scans that my previous office did not. I've suffered from chronic migraines for a few years now and after about a month of working with Dr. Zak, they're just about completely gone! I've had only one headache since beginning the adjustments, but I felt the difference after just the second session.

I never write reviews but honestly this place has been a life saver. I am used to getting a headache about every 3/4 days and it is almost strange to have gone this long without one. I'm also happy about the fact that they address the multiple issues I was concerned with under the same plan. My last chiro would charge a whole different price for sinus adjustments but at Intero it's super convenient that all of my issues will be taken care of without having to worry about paying extra. I'm super excited to see how I will feel after completing their adjustment plan.

Kevin

Back in January, I started having neck pain with right arm numbness and tingling. These symptoms were so bad that I had difficulty sleeping, driving , walking, and even just spiking iv bags at work. I also had to stop playing golf; I was taking ibuprofen every 6 hours as well as a topical nsaid prescribed by my primary care physician.

Thank you Dr Megan and the rest of the staff at Intero Chiropractic! The majority of my symptoms have resolved, and I am able to work and play golf again!

How Can We Help You Heal?

FAQ

Do you take insurance?

We are in-network providers for Medicare and Personal Injury cases. We are not in network with other insurances to ensure we can provide the highest quality of care possible. This approach allows us to provide personalized treatment plans, diagnostic methods, and cutting-edge techniques without the limitations often imposed by insurance companies. Our focus is on delivering the most effective care to achieve lasting results, which we believe leads to better health outcomes and lower healthcare costs in the long run.

How many visits will I need and how much will it cost?

This depends on your goals, as well as the extent of the problems. After we conduct a thorough Funneled Diagnosis™, which includes a case history, a 30 point exam, nerve assessments and full spine x-rays, we will be able to give you an estimated timeline as well as budgetary cost to achieve your health goals.

What is the process like to become a new patient?

On your first visit we'll perform a comprehensive diagnostic session which is crucial for understanding your unique health situation. We perform a full Health History Consultation, 30-Point Exam, full spine Nerve Assessment, and Full Spine Digital X-rays. This thorough approach allows us to uncover underlying issues that might be missed in a standard exam, ensuring we have a complete picture of your health.

After carefully analyzing your results, we meet again for a secondary visit to review our findings. We'll explain everything in detail, helping you understand your body's current state and why you're experiencing certain symptoms. Then, we'll present a tailored treatment plan designed specifically for your needs. This visit is your opportunity to gain clarity on your condition and understand which tools we'll need to employ to lead to lasting improvements in your health.

Do I need to take X-rays?

X-rays are essential to our diagnostic process. They allow us to thoroughly examine your spine before treatment, ensuring we provide the most accurate and effective care. We perform all X-rays in-house for your convenience. However, if you have full-spine X-rays taken within the last year, we can use those instead. Our goal is to have a complete picture of your spinal health to tailor our treatment to your specific needs so we are able to deliver the best possible outcomes for your health.

Also, if you have a contraindication (e.g., radiation therapy, pregnancy), please let us know and we will modify accordingly with a more detailed postural examination.

How do you determine the cause of my neck pain?

On your first visit, we perform a comprehensive diagnostic process to identify the root cause of your neck pain. This includes a detailed consultation to discuss your medical history, symptoms, and care goals, followed by a 30-point physical exam to assess your posture, movement, and overall spinal health. We also conduct a nerve assessment to evaluate nerve function and take full spine X-rays to gain a clear and precise view of your spinal alignment and any structural issues.

By looking at your spine and health holistically—including posture, weight distribution, nerve condition, muscle tension, and more—our doctors can piece together a complete picture of what’s going on and develop a treatment plan tailored to your needs.

Can multiple conditions cause my neck pain?

Yes, it’s common for multiple conditions to contribute to neck pain. Issues like cervical misalignment, loss of neck curvature, and nerve irritation often occur together, creating a cycle of discomfort and tension. For example, forward head posture can place excessive strain on the cervical spine, which in turn can irritate nerves and tighten muscles in the neck and shoulders. That’s why our diagnostic approach looks at your spine and overall health holistically. By identifying and addressing all contributing factors, we can create a comprehensive treatment plan that targets the root causes of your pain for lasting relief.

How is your treatment different from other chiropractic care?

Our approach is rooted in precision and science. Unlike many chiropractic practices that rely on generalized adjustments or guesswork, we take the time to understand exactly what’s causing your pain before starting treatment. You wouldn’t let a dentist start drilling your teeth without first performing an exam and taking X-rays, and we take the same approach to spinal health. Our goal isn’t just to treat symptoms—it’s to correct the problem at its source.

During your first visit, we perform a comprehensive consultation, 30-point exam, nerve assessment, and full spine X-rays to ensure we have a clear picture of your condition. This allows us to create a highly personalized treatment plan that addresses the root cause of your pain, providing long-term relief and improved health.
